One of our clients ran a small team that provided services for a construction site, using special tools and devices. The work had been going on for an extended period, with a daily presence required. Like most people, their experts were looking forward to the holiday season, when they had a scheduled two-week break.
For practical reasons, they left their gear at the construction site while they were on leave. While the chance of trouble was small, adverse consequences could have been severe. Beyond direct damage to the equipment caused by weather or theft, there could have also been financial consequences caused by potential delays in the construction. Depending on the circumstances, this could even have included a financial penalty or reputational damage.
Therefore, our client contracted a security company to safeguard their assets 24/7. The guards were instructed to contact the fire brigade and the police department in case of trouble, and to also notify the client.
Beyond this ‘first response’ service, reliable problem-solving skills and smart call dispatch were also desirable. This would ensure that a larger group of stakeholders were contacted, notified, and consulted depending on the nature of the incident. The security company considered such a service to be beyond their normal services, therefore our client turned to us for help.
There were plenty of calls to be made should something happen. These included liaising between employees and the client’s managers in two countries, the various designated partners associated with the construction, and of course the security guards. We were authorised and enabled to contact the authorities if the situation warranted it. Not only was the number of people involved large but also the number of languages: English, German, Hungarian, and Dutch.
We provided three contact phone numbers for the period, with around-the-clock monitoring. These were to be used by the security guards in case of problems, and also by the client if they wanted to check on the situation.
Fortunately, the holiday season passed uneventfully, with absolutely no headache for the client or their employees. They were able to spend a relaxing period with their loved ones.
